One of the most common questions we get: "I need a website, but what kind?" The two most common needs are a company profile website and an online store. They can look similar from the outside, but their purpose is quite different.
Company profile website
This type of website focuses on building trust and delivering information. It's a good fit if you:
- Sell services rather than physical products that are ordered directly online (e.g., consultants, contractors, travel agencies, clinics).
- Want potential clients to learn about your business, services, and portfolio before reaching out.
- Usually close deals through direct conversation (phone, WhatsApp, or in person), not automated checkout.
Common pages: home, about us, services, portfolio/gallery, and contact.
Online store (e-commerce)
This type of website focuses on transactions. It's a good fit if you:
- Sell products with clear pricing and stock.
- Want customers to browse, add to cart, and pay without manually chatting with you one by one.
- Sell in high enough volume that manual order handling starts to become a burden.
Common pages: product catalog, shopping cart, checkout, and order history.
So, which one do you need?
Here's a simple question to ask: can your customers buy directly without talking to you first?
- If the answer is "yes, they just pick and pay" → you need an online store.
- If the answer is "they usually ask questions first, then we agree on a deal" → a company profile website with a clear WhatsApp button is usually enough, and often more effective.
Some businesses also combine both: a convincing company profile paired with a simple product catalog that directs customers to order via WhatsApp — a good fit for growing businesses that don't yet need a full automated checkout system.
